My message to Boris

The 15th July 2011 is the last day of public consultation on the future plans of London’s roads in Transport For London’s ‘Network Operating Strategy’ (PDF).

If you want London to become one of the safest cities for cycling to work in the world, then please submit your comments and ideas on TFL website.

Here is my message to Boris on commuting by bike in London:

Any new road plans will have to decide which group of commuters will have the easiest, most preferential journey.

This is the time for a safer and sustainable London.

You must have the courage to promote cycling throughout the Capital.

Cycling should be a safe and separate activity in London.

Bike lanes should not just be for straight roads.

Cyclists must have a safe ride through any intersection in London.

This is the time for a safer and sustainable London.

Cycling calculator reviewed in the Guardian

A big thank you to the Guardian’s Max Walker for an insightful article on the Cycle to Work Calculator.

The article sparked quite a discussion online with some cyclists saying they cycle for the love of it - whatever the cost, while other’s commented on how little money they have managed to spend on their bikes and maintanence over the years.

But the most overriding message was clear - people cycle for their own reasons.

My main hope with the Cycle to Work Calculator is that it will give people who are considering cycling to work but debating buying a bike because of the cost a little bit more incentive to get in the saddle.

Cycle to Work Calculator’s online app has been built using responsive web design which means it will magically display formatted for each device you view it on.

This is fantastic news for smartphone users who will not have to strain their eyes or zoom in each time they visit.
